Hauptstrasse 18, Zwiefalten
Definitely worth a visit. Great monastery complex, a very splendid interior. There is also a brewery next door with an excellent beer.
Baroque without end, beautiful to look at
You come by car down the mountain to the "sleepy nest" Zwiefalten and see hardly anything other than the extensive monastery complex with the high baroque minster "Our Lady" with the striking 2 towers. Gigantic and beautiful! The builder was Johann Michael Fischer and the ceiling frescoes are by Franz Josef Spiegler, high baroque in purest culture! Visiting the Münster building free of charge: 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday to Saturday and 9:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Sundays and public holidays. A tour of the choir is only possible as part of a tour of the cathedral. Visits are not possible during church services. Zwiefalten Monastery was founded around 1090. Many renovations followed, and today the cathedral, one of the most important late Baroque buildings with German characteristics, is the focus of the old monastery and pilgrimage site. After the monastery was rebuilt in the Baroque style in 1688, the then abbot Augustin Stegmüller decided to demolish the then Romanesque cathedral and replace it with a new, larger one. Many pilgrims had to be accommodated. Work began in 1739. Gold everywhere and unique stucco. One of the main ornaments of the church is the choir stalls. The miraculous image of the Blessed Mother is enthroned above the cross altar, a holdover from the late Gothic from the 15th century and reworked in the Baroque.
A very beautiful church, totally overloaded with baroque. I really liked the ceiling paintings. We liked the whole area and also the space for the night next to the sports area.
Very beautiful church
Impressive baroque church, which is worth visiting. The interior is richly decorated with paintings, figures, stucco and other works of art. Outside with a facade worth seeing and a huge monastery complex. The nearby monastery brewery and cafés invite you to linger afterwards.
Very very beautiful church. I highly recommend seeing
Zwiefalter Münster
Huge, impressive ..... you should take a look, bring some time with you .....
A magnificent Old monastery is considered one of the finest examples of late Baroque art.
Yes, the Münster is something very special. The mural is breathtaking. You need more than one visit to understand everything. I've been there a few times and always discover something new.
Very impressive building. You can tell when you drive into town, it towers above everything. The minster and the complex behind you invite you to linger.
Impressive baroque-roccoco style church. I particularly appreciated the splendid trompe-l'oeil grids.
Very impressive
Beautiful and easy to recommend. A gem that you would never expect from the outside ...
Zwiefalten a place of relaxation PUR. No matter for young and old. something for everyone. Only recommended. There are so many things that you need at least about 2 to 3 days .. also for motorcycle riders very popular ..
Fantastically beautiful church.
Beautiful church, traditional brewing company next to it, nice for lunch
Super beautiful church, great acoustics and a wonderful sound
Never expected, but I was impressed. An the beer was good, and I m a Belgium one
Top
Nice - and excellent infrastructure around. Sure - there's not much more to see. But if you're there - definitely worth a stop.
Super
Wow. Hearing about it for a long time but never been there. Now finally seeing it I know where the hype is about. What a piece of art. You don't know where to look first. So many stories captured in fresco and statues. Such intriguing fine work. The statues come to life and the pictures with their 3D images. Just wow. ABSOLUTELY worth the trip.
A baroque Masterpiece
Very impressive. Briefly stopped on a motorbike tour and taken a look inside. Great painting. Nice experience
Impressive from the outside ... I like the architecture of the baroque! The eye always finds something to hang on ... all patterns, every ornament and every embellishment want to be considered. But then the inside ... wow! Where should one start looking? One is almost overwhelmed by the impressions that can be perceived here. The opulent ceiling paintings, the overflowing altar, the felt hundreds of small figurines and statuettes, the filigree decorations of the walls, the stuccoed columns ... this is the Rococo style, the increase of the Baroque, in one of its highest characteristics! So pure and amazed ... you can also take pictures. (In addition, such a visit is still the perfect excuse, if you really just because of the brewery and the "beer heaven" after Zwiefalten would like ... 😁) At present, however, the cathedral is a construction site. From at least April 2019, hopefully everything will be back. Did this review help? Then please leave a 👍.
Only three stars, because the cathedral is still being renovated. I think that later this church will shine in wonderful splendor. I photographed this church through a glass pane.
Zwiefalten is a small town in the middle of the Swabian Alb. The beer heaven and the factory outlet of Zwiefalter Klosterbräu is just as outstanding as the beautiful park-like grounds. Incidentally, there is still a psychiatry museum which is small and remote near a cemetery.
Ok
Spectacular view !
All ok
It's breath taking... Strongly recommend
Impressive monumentale church with lots of art! Visit if you have the chance
